| 内容記述 | Botany was known and practiced in Japan in the Edo period. At the time, botany thought new parts of plants that was undeveded by Chinese and Japanese herbalist. Utagawa Youan introduced the form of botany from Europe. He transelated the words for parts of plants using terminology for animal parts, such as ransou 'overry', ena 'afterbirth', hozo 'navel', hozo-no-o 'navel sting'. The reason behind his choice was that this type of botany brought new, progressive ideas about plants, including the notion that animals and plants are similar life forms in that they both reproduce sexually. | |||||
