| 内容記述 | This paper explores the question: to what extent can the Western feminist theories such as liberal feminism, radical feminism, and Marxist feminism explain women's situation in Japanese society. As part of the attempt to answer this question, this paper examines the unique linkage between women's education and the workplace; women's special place in the labor market; and the social status of full-time housewives. In order to do so, this paper reviews existing data in education and the workplace; historical development of the notion of the ""good wife, wise mother;"" and Kawai Hayao's theory of the social structure of Japan. Towards the construction of Japanese feminism, this paper proposes the following: 1) to examine how women are differentiated among themselves using the inclusive analysis of gender, class, and race-ethnicity; 2) to apply interdisciplinary knowledge to shed light on the social structure that is unique to Japanese society; 3) to compile a collection of life histories of women in various sectors, including both public and private spheres. |
