| 内容記述 | The objective of this article is to examine early-twentieth-century Japanese writer Okamoto Kanoko’s Portrait of an Old Geisha from the point of view of motherhood and eroticism. After an examination of the historical context of this novel, as well as the history of early feminism in 20th century Japan, and the social and cultural tenets that defined femininity at the time, this article explores how maternity is portrayed in Okamoto’s novel, and attempts to reveal the keys that present eroticized motherhood not as a form of perversion, but as a creative, narrative force. | |||||
