内容記述 | The aims of this research are to improve and enrich the training curriculum for kindergarten and enable nursery school teachers to conduct effective childcare practices utilizing the sandbox. Although a sandbox is commonly included in playground equipment in most childcare facilities, many childcare practitioners do not fully understand how to optimize the potentiality of sandbox play. Generally, playing in a sandbox is considered to enhance various aspects of childrenʼs development, such as the imagination, creativity, and social skills. If sandbox play is effectively utilized, teachers can improve their practices and gain confidence. Thus, they will be providing greater benefits for children in their care, who will be enriched through the enjoyable play experiences. For a long time, I have been providing training programs regarding sandbox play for teachers across Japan. When I began offering this training, I had very little understanding of the questions that they had about their teaching practices. As my interactions with teachers increased, I modified the contents and methods of the training program as I learned more about their work environments and needs. For further improvements in the program, I administered a survey questionnaire at a workshop held in August 2017 for childcare professionals in Fukushima Prefecture. Based on the findings of that survey, this paper includes the identification and analyses of current issues that childcare practitioners are facing in their sandbox activities. Consideration is being given to developing a program that will unify concrete practices with child development theories. |
