コルビーやF.ガードナーなどアメリカン・ボードの女性宣教師たちとの出会いである。それが梅花女学校での学びにつながり、高い教養や英語力だけでなくキリスト教へのマインドをさらに深めることができた。もう一つは、京都看病婦学校での宣教看護婦L. リチャーズとの出会いである。てつはL.
