Over the centuries, theories about the phenomenon have proliferated, a debate which has given rise to the scholarly term fanxun (反訓, enantiosemy).\nThose who resist the concept of fanxun claim that these contradictory meanings are more recently accreted additions that result from the process of jiajie (仮借, phonetic borrowing) rather than meanings that inhere in the character from the start. Supporters of the idea of fanxun -- especially contemporary supporters -- attempt to parse the contradictory meanings as a dialectical conflict.\nIn contrast to these viewpoints, the present paper advances two claims. The first is that, when taking into account the conventions of character creation and the history of character development, the phenomenon of a single character bearing two diametrically opposed meanings is the result of the phenomena of zhuanzhu (転注, derivative cognates) and jiajie (仮借, phonetic borrowing). That is, this paper asserts, even if one accepts the claim that the second, contradictory meaning was a later accretion through the process of jiajie, the conventions of character creation make the appearance of fanxun inevitable. Meanwhile, zhuanzhu and jiajie are conventions of character creation that work to increase the number of characters and the meanings that they bear, and both are based in the same sources of sound and meaning.\nFrom this foundation, the paper offers an additional formulation: “opposite meanings, intimately entwined (相反相因, xiangfan xiangyin).” That is, the paper asserts that a character that bears diametrically opposed meanings is not to be understood as a dialectic, but as “opposite meanings, intimately entwined” (i.e., contradictions which exist in intimate relation to each other) -- an understanding of the phenomenon that is characteristically Chinese.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_description_6":{"attribute_name":"内容記述","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"論文","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_10002_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.15020/00002183","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10002_link_30":{"attribute_name":"著者 外部リンク","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_link_text":"同志社女子大学研究者データベース - 朱捷","subitem_link_url":"https://research-db.dwc.doshisha.ac.jp/rd/html/japanese/researchersHtml/2189/2189_Researcher.html"}]},"item_10002_publisher_32":{"attribute_name":"出版地","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"京都"}]},"item_10002_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"同志社女子大学総合文化研究所 (学術研究支援課)"}]},"item_10002_source_id_11":{"attribute_name":"書誌レコードID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AN10052143","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_10002_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"09100105","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_10002_text_27":{"attribute_name":"著者 所属","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"同志社女子大学・現代社会学部・社会システム学科・教授"}]},"item_10002_text_28":{"attribute_name":"著者所属(翻訳)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"Department of Social System Studies, Faculty of Contemporary Social Studies, Doshisha Women’s College of Liberal Arts, Professor"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"朱, 捷"},{"creatorName":"シュ, ショウ","creatorNameLang":"ja-Kana"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"6839","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"ZHU, Jie","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"6840","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2021-08-19"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"AN10052143-20210820-107.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"1.1 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"反訓にみる「相反相因」について","url":"https://dwcla.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/2244/files/AN10052143-20210820-107.pdf"},"version_id":"2e6bba6f-6bd9-4462-a4fe-07a4144a60f3"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"反訓にみる「相反相因」について","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"反訓にみる「相反相因」について"},{"subitem_title":"Fanxun: “Opposite meanings, intimately entwined”","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10002","owner":"19","path":["18","370"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2021-08-19"},"publish_date":"2021-08-19","publish_status":"0","recid":"2244","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["反訓にみる「相反相因」について"],"weko_creator_id":"19","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-05-15T14:21:36.344762+00:00"}
