内容記述 The basis for Japan’s rapid modernization during the Meiji period and subsequent periods was the high literacy rate that existed during the Edo period. Dr. D. Kikuchi and Dr. R. Fujisawa played important roles in the establishment of mathematics education in Japan. In 1935, the fourth government designated an arithmetic textbook edited by Naomichi Shiono et al.
Perry J, Klein F. et al. propose to reform school mathematics around 1900. The arithmetic textbook which was edited by Naomichi Shiono was influenced by reformation of school mathematics by Perry, Klein et al. Secondary school mathematics textbook was tyied to construct in order to learn secondary school mathematics connected to new arithmetic textbook in Japan.
At the end of World War Ⅱ, Japan’s mathematics education underwent considerable transformation. The new curriculum became the basis for the Life Unit Study. The study course for school mathematics was revised in 1958, in 1969, and implemented in 1972. This revision was designed to introduce the effective results of the modernization of mathematics. In 1977, publications titled “More flexibility” and “Back to Basics” became public opinion. In 1989, it was stressed that the effects of technological development must be introduced to school mathematics and that enhancing pupils’ mathematical thinking ability must be regarded as highly important.
The relationships between developing individual ability and learning process in classroom were discussed based on “Ikiruchikara (Zest for living)”.
Further, how teachers enhanced the competency and enjoyment of, and the value of learning arithmetic and mathematics without mastering skills in the 2010s were discussed. As some terms related to affect toward arithmetic and mathematics have been used in the courses of study, it is important for teachers to know these terms.
