<dc:description>Playing with sand is one of the most popular play styles among children. However, it has not been studied sufficiently so far. The significance of playing with sand and its role in a childcare curriculum have yet to be determined. Looking at the history of the sandbox, previous studies showed that playing with sand was supported by people who insisted on the importance of free, spontaneous child's play. Moreover, they showed a scientific way to discover a child's nature based on observation of children playing with sand. In this study, playing with sand will be researched from the viewpoint of child development and a childcare curriculum. This article will review previous studies, although they are not many, and try to form a perspective for the future study of playing with sand among young children.</dc:description>
