The integration of the cross-border regions is part of European regional policy. This article analyzes the process and characteristics of cross-border co-operation in Sweden, putting emphasis on the Interreg program of the European Union's regional policy. The five regions designated by the present InterregIIIA program are as follows: North, Kvarken-MittSkandia, Islands, Sweden-Norway and Oresund. The cross-border integration process in Oresund between Denmark and Sweden is the largest and the most ambitious one among them. The aim of this integration is to build a high-tech industrial cluster across the strait capable of competing in the globalized economy.
